Mumbai Protest Backs Delhi Demonstration as Police Detain Supporters at Shivaji Park
Supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party gathered at Shivaji Park in Mumbai to back the ongoing Jantar Mantar protest in New Delhi over alleged examination irregularities and education reforms. Sharmila Thackeray joined the demonstration as police detained protesters and tightened security to maintain law and order during the gathering.
The gathering drew supporters who voiced their backing for the movement, which has continued in the national capital with demands for reforms in the education system and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's wife, Sharmila Thackeray, joined the protest at Shivaji Park. According to those present at the site, she attempted to prevent police personnel from taking away protesters after officers began detaining demonstrators during the gathering.
Police later escorted the demonstrators away from the protest site as part of measures to maintain law and order, according to sources. The exact number of people detained was not immediately known.
A heavy police deployment remained in place around Shivaji Park throughout the protest to prevent any untoward incident and ensure that the situation remained under control.
The demonstration in Mumbai comes amid continuing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party in New Delhi, where supporters have been pressing for accountability over alleged examination irregularities, comprehensive education reforms, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The protest reflects the party's effort to expand support for its campaign beyond the national capital while authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.
